Doctors Nova Scotia serves over 3,500 practising and retired physicians, medical students, and residents.
The province is home to more than 2,200 practicing physicians, but shortages in some communities remain.
The provincial Department of Health is responsible for recruiting physicians, but Doctors Nova Scotia plays an active role in recruitment and retention by striving to help create favourable working conditions, deserved remuneration, and valued benefits of membership.
Doctors in Nova Scotia must hold either a licence to practice in the province, be enrolled at Dalhousie Medical School, or be a member of the Professional Association of Residents in the Maritime Provinces (PARI-MP).
