The Dalhousie University medical school uses affirmative action to increase the admission of and number of graduates from under-represented groups, specifically both African Nova Scotians and aboriginal people in the Maritimes who have a substantial connection with the aboriginal community.
Applicants must self-identify in section 4 of the application form that they wish to be considered for admission under the affirmative action policy.
Admission prerequisites are required for all applicants. However, applicants who apply under the affirmative action policy are considered on the basis of their qualifications for the study of medicine rather than in relation to other candidates.
