Doctors Nova Scotia has been named the second best place to work in Atlantic Canada by the Best Companies Group and Progress Magazine.
“Creating a workplace where employees enjoy coming to work has always been one of my main priorities,” said Doug Clarke, CEO of Doctors Nova Scotia.
“This award is confirmation that we are on the right track. It means a lot to me that the ranking was largely based on the assessments of the people who work here,” he added.
The Best Places to Work in Atlantic Canada program was designed to recognize the best employers in the region – those who make it a priority to create better workplaces for their employees.
Doctors Nova Scotia is second on a list of 30 companies. Ambir, an IT consulting firm with offices in Halifax, Saint John, and Fredericton, topped the list.
To determine the region’s Best Places to Work, Progress Magazine partners with Pennsylvania-based Best Companies Group, a research firm that manages best company programs in North America and one in Western Australia. The Best Companies Group conducts an extensive two-part survey, including an organizational overview of each company’s policies and procedures and an in-depth employee questionnaire.
Doctors Nova Scotia registered for the Best Places to Work program for the first time in 2010. The association’s submission included information on its commitment to the community, medicinal garden, generous benefit and pension packages, open communication policy as well as the true commitment to work-life balance and physical fitness for employees.
Kevin Chapman, director of policy at Doctors Nova Scotia, noted that the positive workplace culture at the association isn’t an accident. He said there’s a commitment at Doctors Nova Scotia to developing a culture that values employees and provides staff the opportunity to thrive, to excel, and to feel a sense of contribution and self worth.
“I really believe that the Board of Directors and the CEO have, over the years, worked hard at creating a culture where staff know that they’re valued and appreciated and where we’re allowed to succeed. I’m not sure that there is a better legacy for any leader,” said Mr. Chapman.
