Doctors Nova Scotia provided input into the recently approved Bill 47, An Act Respecting the Practice of Dietetics.

This bill will replace the Professional Dietitians Act, in place since 1990.

Bill 47 includes changes that will define the scope of practice of dietitians and nutritionists. It will address standards of practice, and establish the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists whose primary responsibility will be to serve and protect the public interest.

This bill received Royal Assent on Nov. 5, 2009.
