Cross training

Running is just one form of physical activity that will help you get and stay healthy.

Using a variety of activities, or cross-training, helps develop other parts of your body, keeps you from getting bored and can prevent overuse injuries.

There are three types of activity to include in your physical activity routine:

  • Endurance- running, jumping and swimming strengthen the heart and lungs
  • Flexibility- gymnastics, yoga and dancing improve your flexibility and range of motion
  • Strength- climbing, swinging and heavy yard work strengthen muscles and bones

Try to include at least 60 minutes of physical activity to your day. Give some of these activities a try:

  • Jumping rope
  • Hiking or brisk walking
  • Playing hacky sack
  • Rollerblading
  • Swimming
  • Dancing
  • Skating
  • Sledding
  • Skiing
  • Biking
  • Water skiing
  • Circuit training
  • Soccer
  • Basketball
  • Martial arts
  • Tai Chi
  • Helping your parents with yard work
