Health education

Being healthy starts long before a visit to the doctors’ office and that’s why Doctors Nova Scotia invests in preventive programs to help you to eat healthy, get active, quit smoking, prevent flu and have a Pap test, if you’re a woman.

Doctors do everything they can to help you through personal illness, but you have a lot of control over your own health. Being healthy means adopting a lifestyle built on physical activity, healthy eating and preventative medicine.

The Doctors Nova Scotia Kids' Run Club, which just started its eighth year, is offered free to schools throughout Nova Scotia. This program encourages running as a way for kids to be active when they’re young, and to carry that activity into adulthood. Parents are encouraged to look into how your child can become involved.

Doctors Nova Scotia also has a responsibility to work with government and other organizations to help create and keep a safe and healthy province. To that end, the association often provides input on proposed laws that may affect patient care or the health and safety of Nova Scotians. When gathering information to prepare feedback on draft legislation, Doctors Nova Scotia consults with its members who are considered experts in the area most impacted by the legislation and from our Board of Directors.
