Navigating the health-care system can be challenging, especially during times of illness or crisis. Finding the right resources is often half the battle.
Up-to-date information is offered here on:

  • Finding a family doctor: The Department of Health and Wellness’ list of family doctors who are accepting new patients.
  • Walk-in clinics: Location, hours and contact information for many of the province’s walk-in clinics which allow patients to drop in without an appointment or, in some cases, make appointments in advance.
  • Nova Scotia hospitals/district health authorities: A complete list of hospitals, health-care facilities and district health authorities in the province, along with contact information for each.
  • Nova Scotia nursing homes: An explanation of the process of getting on a wait list for a nursing home. Includes contact information for the Department of Health and Wellness' Continuing Care programs.
  • HealthLink 811: This 24-hour, seven-days-a-week Telecare service provides free and confidential health advice and information to concerned callers. A Nova Scotia health card isn’t required.
