Electronic cigarettes

Tobacco restriction has resulted in reduced smoking rates, particularly among youth. The growing popularity of electronic cigarettes has the potential to reverse the population health gains made through tobacco legislation.

In February 2014, Doctors Nova Scotia endorsed Smoke Free Nova Scotia’s position on electronic cigarettes and committed to support the government’s efforts to regulate products.

Nova Scotia Health and Wellness Minister Leo Glavine has publicly stated his intent to prevent youth from exposure to the act of smoking and purchasing the product. Adults who wish to purchase the product will be able to do so as they can with tobacco products.

Smoke Free Nova Scotia includes representatives from Doctors Nova Scotia, Department of Health and Wellness Addiction Services, Cancer Care Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society, District Health Authorities Addiction Services and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
