Opioids strategy

Several initiatives are underway to ensure physicians are engaged in addressing the opioid issue in Nova Scotia.

Doctors Nova Scotia has several initiatives ongoing that aim to lead conversations with doctors and health-care partners about:
  • Safe prescribing practices
  • Improved access to naloxone for overdose prevention
  • Improved access to opioid replacement treatment (ORT)
Doctors Nova Scotia is partnering with organizations to research, develop and distribute materials that address the misuse of opioids. The association also collaborate with government and partners as appropriate, and advocates for appropriate compensation for treating stable methadone clients.
