About the Club
Kids’ Run Club is a free school-based running program designed to give children and youth an opportunity to be active through running.
The goal of Kids’ Run Club is to give children and youth a chance to be active and to learn about healthy lifestyles. The best part about the Kids’ Run Club is, it doesn’t matter if participants have run before or if they’re already physically fit. This club teaches participants about proper technique and pacing, and how to balance the challenge of running with taking breaks so that all experience success, not to mention fun!
Kids’ Run Club teaches students an important fundamental movement skill: running. Learning proper running technique provides participants with an important building block required for achieving physical literacy. The program’s three training programs (2.1, 4.2 and 5 kms) offer a SMART goal teaching tool where participants learn to plan, implement and achieve a rewarding challenge.
You don’t need to be a runner or even have any experience with running. The kids in this program simply need a champion – someone to make sure they are safe and having fun.
Support for Coaches
Doctors Nova Scotia provides all coaches with a Coach’s Handbook and supporting materials to help you make the club awesome. Kids’ Run Club representatives will assist you in tailoring the program to suit your circumstances and make school visits when possible to provide support, motivation and running clinics. Register your school/group by March 31 to receive a free Kids’ Run Club visor!
The program can be embedded in curriculum in the gym or classroom or implemented as an extra-curricular. Your club can run for as little as one hour per week or as many times as you’d like. That’s the beauty of the program – it’s whatever you want it to be. Kids’ Run Club generally spans 8-12 weeks in the spring in preparation for final fun run.
