Doctors Nova Scotia membership is open to all physicians licensed to practice in Nova Scotia, medical students, and residents (including fellows).

As members of Doctors Nova Scotia, physicians benefit from being part of a united voice that advocates for an adequately supported health-care system, quality health-care delivery and a healthier Nova Scotia.

Benefits of membership

In addition to the association’s role in negotiating physician remuneration and providing a complete health and dental plan, Doctors Nova Scotia also offers its members a comprehensive package of benefits and services and a range of personal and professional resources to support physicians in their daily practice.

Doctors Nova Scotia provides members with several support programs and services, including:
Members also have access to the Business of Medicine program, which offers billing seminars, information on running an effective and efficient business, and personalized support and guidance for purchasing and implementing an EMR –to name just a few examples.

In addition, Doctors Nova Scotia membership ensures that the concerns of Nova Scotia’s physicians are heard at the provincial and national levels. Our efforts help ensure that they are best positioned to provide their patients with accessible, high-quality care.

Membership criteria

In order to become a member of Doctors Nova Scotia, the applicant must be one of the following:
  • A licensed physician in Nova Scotia – physicians licensed to practise medicine in Nova Scotia are required to belong to Doctors Nova Scotia, as mandated by the province’s Medical Act
  • A student enrolled in Dalhousie Medical School or at Université de Sherbrooke’s medical school as a Nova Scotia student
  • A resident who belongs to the Maritime Resident Doctors
  • A fellow under the sponsorship of a licensed physician in Nova Scotia
