Doctors' Day declared in Nova Scotia

May 1, 2013

May 1 is Doctors’ Day in Nova Scotia. Doctors Nova Scotia is encouraging patients across the province to celebrate the day with us by sharing a positive story about your doctor through the “Your Doctors. Your Stories.” campaign.

Physicians are an integral component of Nova Scotia’s health-care system. Each day, Nova Scotia’s doctors treat approximately 30,000 patients. Doctors’ Day provides an opportunity for Nova Scotians to recognize the unique role physicians play in delivering high-quality health care in our province.

Your Doctors. Your Stories.” launched at the end of February and provides a platform for patients to share positive stories about their doctors and to thank them for their unwavering commitment to improving the health of the province.

The campaign’s hub is an interactive website, YourDoctors.ca that showcases the unique work of eight doctors from across the province and captures patient stories on a map of Nova Scotia. The campaign is supported by the association’s Facebook page and Twitter account.

Ontario was the first province to declare a day for doctors when they had May 1st proclaimed as Doctors’ Day last year. Ontario chose May 1 to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Emily Stowe, the first female physician in Canada. Nova Scotia is only the second province in Canada to proclaim a day dedicated to celebrating doctors.
