Doctors Nova Scotia is now accepting applications for its $10,000 Strive Award. The annual award recognizes charitable organizations that make a difference in their community by promoting healthy and active lifestyles.
This year’s award recipient will be given a $10,000 grant to spend on advancing health promotion initiatives in their community. The amount of the grant is double what has been offered since the award began in 2011. The winner will also receive a plaque for their community, and a feature on doctorsNS.com and in doctorsNS, the official magazine of Doctors Nova Scotia.
Eligible award nominees are any community group in the province comprised of more than 75 per cent volunteers and whose work aligns with Doctors Nova Scotia’s priorities such as active transportation, healthy eating and smoking cessation to achieve a healthier community.
The 2012 recipient was Friends of Ellenwood Park. It is a committee that works to oversee off-season recreation use at Ellenwood Provincial Park as a way to increase and promote healthy lifestyles for its community members.
Doctors know the importance of promoting and supporting community health and wellness initiatives. The Strive Award is one way to keep our community healthy and happy.
