The CMA's Annual Meeting
includes a business session that considers business and
matters referred by General Council — the governing body and legislative
authority of the CMA. General Council is responsible for providing
high-level policy guidance and direction to the organization in general, and
the board of directors in particular.
Doctors Nova Scotia is eligible to send the President and 11 delegates to represent the association at the CMA General Council.
Criteria for Delegates
- A member of Doctors Nova Scotia and the CMA
- Be informed on the current activities/initiatives of Doctors Nova Scotia and the CMA
- Able to commit the time required to attend the conference
The 2017 CMA General Council meeting will be held in Québec City, Q.C. from August 20-23. Delegates are expected to attend the daily business sessions and any other formal meetings of the delegation.
Expenses incurred by delegates for attending the conference will be reimbursed in accordance with the Doctors Nova Scotia Honoraria and Expense Policy. An honorarium of $2,000 will also be paid.
The Executive Committee of the Board is responsible for reviewing and approving the list of Doctors Nova Scotia delegates. The Executive Committee will try to achieve the following complement of delegates to ensure a good cross-section of the membership is representing our interests at CMA General Council; however, this is only intended to be a guideline and may vary based on interest:
- Four Board members
- One medical student
- One resident
- One member of the Policy & Health Issues Committee
- Three members of Doctors Nova Scotia who have submitted an expression of interest
Expression of interest
Doctors Nova Scotia members interested in attending CMA General Council as a Doctors Nova Scotia delegate should submit an Expression of Interest Form by April 4, 2017.
All submissions will be reviewed by the Executive Committee and members will be notified of the Committee's selection in May.
