Nominees for this honour must have distinguished themselves in their medical careers by making a significant contribution to the community and to the profession.
Nominees can be granted senior membership only on the unanimous vote of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Board of Directors.
Any member in good standing of the CMA for the immediately preceding 10-year period who has attained the age of 65 is eligible to be nominated for honorary membership by an ordinary member of the association. He or she must be approved by the executive body of the division in which he or she practiced, but may be elected only by the unanimous approval of the members of the Board of Directors of the association present and voting.
Doctors Nova Scotia is entitled to three honourary members per year. Honorary members will enjoy all the rights and privileges of the association but shall not be required to pay any annual fee.
