MSI Coverage

Residents of Nova Scotia receive general health-care coverage through Nova Scotia Medical Service Insurance (MSI). Anyone moving permanently to Nova Scotia should contact MSI upon arrival to ensure coverage starts as early as possible.

Nova Scotia residents traveling within most provinces of Canada are covered by MSI for medically-necessary insured services through the Interprovincial Reciprocal Billing Agreement, upon display of a current provincial health card.

Nova Scotia residents who require emergency medical services while traveling outside of Canada may be eligible for reimbursement of medical costs. Coverage may be limited and reimbursement is usually for the cost of a procedure in Nova Scotia so residents are strongly encouraged to purchase a supplemental travel health plan prior to travel.

For more information on MSI coverage, visit www.gov.ns.ca/health/msi.
