Running program completes
sixth year with record numbers
Doctors Nova Scotia offered the Youth Running for Fun program to schools across the province for a sixth year.
The program continued to experience growth with more than 11,400 participants from 182 schools. Forty-five new schools joined the program this year including five from the Strait region which has been underrepresented until this year.
The Youth Running for Fun Program was created by Doctors Nova Scotia in 2004 to address inactivity in Nova Scotia’s youth. It's offered to elementary, junior and senior high schools around the province at no cost. Participants learn the basics of running and the importance of making healthy eating and physical activity part of their daily lives.
Doctors Nova Scotia is pleased to announce that the Canadian Medical Association has come on board as an association partner of the Youth Running for Fun Program. The CMA joins the existing program partners: Presenting partners the Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection and RBC and patron partner TELUS Health Solutions. These partnerships allow Doctors Nova Scotia to continue offering the program for free to more and more schools.
