Halifax native Doug Clarke received his bachelor of commerce from Saint Mary’s University in
1979 and his diploma in chartered accountancy shortly thereafter. He has been the CEO of
Doctors Nova Scotia since 1997.
Mr. Clarke believes in leading an organization by employing a straightforward and honest
communication style, and encouraging contribution from all team members. Mr. Clarke sees Doctors Nova Scotia as being a voice and leader for all Nova Scotia physicians where it works to advance health-care delivery in Nova Scotia by advocating for more innovation and creativity in the heath-care system, a better work-life balance for physicians and healthy lifestyles for all Nova Scotians.
Mr. Clarke has more than 20 years of experience in the health-care industry, having acted in
many roles for the IWK Health Centre from president and CEO to VP Finance and Information
Services. This experience enables Mr. Clarke the vision and skills to help keep physicians
in Nova Scotia on the leading edge of designing the health-care system.
While Mr. Clarke’s professional life keeps him busy, he's also involved in the
community. He has coached a midget female competitive hockey team, served as vice-president of Baseball Nova Scotia, and has been a board member of Gold Medal
Plates.
Mr. Clarke and his wife Anne have three children: Colleen, Doug and Courtney.
